Brazil’s streetchildren.

They flee to the streets of Brasil: from their homes, from hunger and violence in their family. Over and over again, poverty and violence force children to leave their parental home, and the street seems to be the only resource. By taking drrugs, they try to make their situation more bearable. This way of life destroys their bodies as well as their personalities.

The cold streets of Fortaleza and Recife

According to the latest census, there are exactly 510 children living in the streets of Fortaleza and 450 in Recife. Although each of them has to tell his own story, the reasons that struggled them to live in the streets are nearly all the same: hunger, violence, disorientation, and desperation made them to leave their homes. All of us just hardly can imagine what has to happen to force children to make such a decision. And although the street soon shows its dark side, there is no point of return for them. So all they can do is to try to survive and to get used of it. Sniffing glue or taking other drugs can be helpfull, but they cant hide what will happen to all of these children who live this way of life. They will be completely destroyed, physically and mentally.

If you look into the emptyness of their eyes, you could maybe imagine a bit of the agony they had to endure.
